Come along to Sandwick's Carnegie Hall on Sunday 28th April for a fantastic afternoon of short films made by Charlie Smith! This varied collection includes a dramatic short made with friends in the 1950s; and a 1980s live music performance in Lerwick's much missed Jubilee 77 venue.

A selection of archive films on the theme of 'Industrial Boats' will be screened by the Shetland Maritime Heritage Society on Thursday 25th January 2024 at Islesburgh Community Centre. A great chance to get together with maritime enthusiasts and discuss Shetland heritage.

All are welcome at our Annual General Meeting (via Zoom) on Monday 4th December. A chance to meet the Shetland Film Archive team, hear what we've been up to in 2022/2023 and how you can get involved!

As the UK celebrates 70 years of the Queen’s reign, Shetland Film Archive present a selection of films featuring royal visits to Shetland, made by James Thomason. These films will be screened at Mareel as part of the Screenplay Film festival, between Thursday 1st and Saturday 2rd September 2022.

The archive is thrilled to have worked with Shetland Arts on a double film feature which is being screened at Mareel until August. The films will take viewers on a journey through the history of Shetland music, followed by a glimpse into life in Shetland through rarely seen archive footage.

On 13th May 2021, a collection of newly digitised films showcasing Shetland life in the 1950s and 60s was premiered in a free, online event. Archive clips were presented with specially recorded introductions from Shetland heritage experts and the families who donated the original material.

In April 2021 Greg McCarron was interviewed by Laurie Goodlad - a local writer, historian, and all round champion of Shetland culture! They spoke about the work of the archive, and how people can get involved with the preservation and celebration of Shetland's moving image heritage.

The Shetland Film Archive lit up Lerwick shop windows in winter 2020, with a socially-distant, outdoor and accessible celebration of archive films. The Winderfil trail screened silent films in shop windows along Commercial Street, from 2pm each day until shops closed.
